Petrie, Laurel, and Bono

It's official, our 8+ year old couches (who've traveled cross-country with us twice) are moving down to the basement, which means I get new pieces for the living room. To set the scene, the room is somber sky blue, with a big white brick fireplace, and lots of windows.

As much as I adore and crush over Crate and Barrel's
Petrie sofa I have ordered Lay-Z-Boy's Laurel sofa because, well, it's a 1/3 the price. And by having it custom covered in nearly the same snowy colored fabric with a basket-weave texture, I think I'm good to go, and with money left over for a loveseat and ottoman! (Do people still say loveseat? Or is everything a "chair and a half" these days?)

The Petrie has such great lines, but it's nearly impossible to find it's twin at a big showroom or liquidation place. (Being pregnant and on a deadline, I don't have the patience to Craig's List or vintage shop this out.) It's sad actually what's out there. Don't get me started on the giant spaceship modular uglies I've seen in the last week! What happened? I'm certain there will not be a show like Mad Men in our future that chronicles the current state of style the masses are wanting today. What's the U2 lyric? "Glorify the past when the future dries up"? Bono must have been referring to this particular dilemma, right? Haha

And yeah, I have to stop looking at the Petrie, it's so cool, but it's not to be...

[Habits]

I have the very bad habit of taking pictures when I need to get in the shower to be someplace.

Here is today's evidence of this fact.

Blabla

Have you heard of Blabla? I have no problem admitting I was window shopping their site for myself and not for Bub.

I suppose I'd share.

But
Lee-Lee Plum would be all mine. =)

Room Inspired

The swan lake by inaluxe.
Amber apothecary bottle by AMradio.
BÖJA floor lamp by Ikea.
Hanging glass bubbles and sculpted origami pillow by West Elm.

After hours and hours Friday of brainstorming over paint and carpet colors for our nearly finished basement, I keep coming back to this room. (Isn't that couch gorgeous!) Since we are working mostly with pieces we already have, and transporting all my office furniture down there and out of Bub's future room, I'm just going to put this dream room on my wishlist. But while on said wishlist it doesn't hurt to let it inspire a collection of fun items. =)

..Then again, I think I do really need that lamp. And some big chunky grey throw pillows... Someone stop me before I reason my way into finding a couch like that too!

{The End}

A little photo project called Two Girls Two Postcards ends today. My dear friend Moa and I leaped into 2010 with this project and I remember sitting here at my computer with my very first postcard photo for her, wondering where this year would go and how in the heck I'd actually accomplish 53 weeks of photos that would be worthwhile! I'll admit I have my favorites (the 4 above among them) and I'll admit that there was a good long stretch of time where shooting was difficult (all day morning sickness-- eeek!) and I don't quit love those photos as much. But documenting this past year with my lovely friend has been something I'll always cherish. She was one of my very first true Flickr pals and I can't believe it's been over three years since we met on that site which has brought me so much. Yay! And Wow!

~~~~~~~~
Now on to some gorgeousness from Moa's side of the world...
These are some of my many favorites that Moa shot this year. She's so talented! I couldn't wait to see what she'd send over my way. I mean seriously, it was the first thing I checked every Monday! I knew working with her would push me to find interesting shots of everyday life and push me to try to translate these moments in lovely ways, with beautiful light and an overall tranquil happy feeling-- just like she always does!
Thank you friend for a wonderful experience! Best wishes in 2011! And I just might send you a postcard every now and then for old times sake. ; ) xoxo
