The Weekly Holiday: week 41

Happy Monday!  Happy Fall Monday!  Happy happy pretty Fall Monday!
Am I a little excited about the cozy goodness that is our week 41?  Maaaaaybe...
My sunflowers and Moa's pretty buttons and great depth of field just make me happy.

Untitled

Birch and lichen, moss and stone.  Leaves and puddles and mushrooms.

We spent the day we arrived running in the rain and wind.  Eating french fries, fish 'n chips, and wild rice soup.  Shopping for antique treasures.  Lounging and swimming, then running through the rain some more for pizza and beers.

The next day, after trying to squeeze in visits to more of our favorite places, the kid fell asleep, we drove to the highest point, and I got to steal a few minutes with my camera.  Alone.  In all this beauty.

I can't wait to take the kid here and let him explore like a hunter in a forest.  But right then, it was nice to just be me with my camera.  For all of 30 minutes.
It did me good.

The Weekly Holiday: week 40

My "pins" or legs, standing at Enger Tower in Duluth, Minnesota.  Moa's pins on her desk.

Totally had to stretch there to find the similarity between our week's photos!  Similarities are not mandatory.  It's "The Weekly Holiday" after all.  If something was "mandatory" it would just be the fact that we take the time to enjoy our surroundings.  Regardless of what they may be.

Happy week 40!

Rainy. Weekend. Getaway.

A rain-filled weekend was in the forecast.  The anniversary of the day my guy and I met was Friday.  It's been 19 years.  We pack one little bag for the three of us (kid included) and headed here.  Duluth, Minnesota.  Where we went to school.  Rain is always better on a lake.  Followed up by a hotel with a warm swimming pool.  (Which the boys enjoyed beyond measure.)  Me.  I'll take the next day, with my camera and these views.
Actually, I'll take it all.  It was wonderful.
To be honest, there were some pretty big messes, but that's how it goes when you roll with a 2 year old.  Still we'll never forget it.

More pics to come...

Reviewing September

September was gorgeous.  It was just gorgeous.  Summer said goodbye in September.  It was a long lovely farewell.  Flower pots and morning feet.  Cool weather cooking, warm weather cooking, just cooking.  A zoo date, a harvest festival date (complete with fireworks, of which I'm not good at capturing by cell phone), a park date in the rain.  Buzzy bees everywhere.  Sailboats make me dream.  Squeezing in every last moment.  Soaking up every last view.  Laughing so hard in the dark by the lake.  Reaching for willow branches and putting our feet in the water.  Saying, not goodbye, but "see you soon" (or maybe it was bon voyage!") to best friends, and saying "hello" to rainboots again.  I felt things pretty deeply in September, and I think September matched those feelings with richness and sympathy and joy.

It was one for the books.

The Weekly Holiday: week 39

Little sneaky behind the couch, and Moa's knitting and current book...
See you next Monday!

Update:  I've updated my blog width and photo size, but have only change the photo resolution from the next post going forward.  Going back through the rest of my old posts to change the photos?  Ain't nobody got time for that!  ; )

The Weekly Holiday: week 38

Buzzy bees and organic eggs make me happy, hopefully YOU too.  I missed the bees this summer, but they are here now and so welcomed.  Moa got a bunch of eggs, and I'd sure welcome those as well.

Frittata in the garden, anyone?

Butterflies

I've never been able to capture a decent photograph of a butterfly.  And other than the little white ones, and one giant yellow and blue one (I'm still kicking myself for not having my camera nearby) there haven't been many this summer.

Today there were three.  And they all sat juuuust long enough for me to *snap snap snap* until they said "Hope you got it, cause I'm outta here, darling!"  It was pretty cool.
