Black & White

I've gone tumbling into the world of black and white! Please join me in my shop's newest section, where more will be added soon. Can I let you in on a little secret? I don't have very many of my own photographs up in my house. I have portraits I've taken of the people I love, and the work of many Etsy artists that I admire, but people are surprised that I don't have my own work in EVERY room. Haha I guess to me that seems a little self-indulgent. But last week I hung three large black and whites of my own humble work in my bedroom. I'm pleasantly enjoying the feeling that only BW gives, when you notice lines and shapes, and have quiet room to breathe. My shop full of candy colors may soon have some competition from some new friends. Like I said, I've gone tumbling into the world of black and white...

Holga Friday and Rainy Days

As my little buddy sleeps in his swing next to my desk, I've scanned a roll of film taken with my holga last month. You can see more photos here.We haven't gotten out of the house much in the last few days because of the rain. I'm getting antsy to shoot again. But he's been distracted by a gift from his aunt and uncle.
My house is being overrun by swings and play gyms and the like. On the flip side shooting film simplifies my life because it eliminates the "processing" on my end. How those two things relate, I don't know. ; ) But it can stop raining at anytime so we can get out for walk... Truthfully, I'd like to just go walk in the rain. Can I do that if I close him up in his stroller with all it's awnings and do-hickies? I swear he wouldn't get wet. =)

Shop Update

Well, my oh my, three blog posts this week! And a shop update here! I don't know if I actually have more time or if I'm so drawn to get back to things that I'm really just carving it out any way I can. I do think it helps that I've sort of gotten over the whole "I simply must hold this baby 24/7." He's great and he's not going anywhere. No one is coming to say "your time is up, you didn't pass the new mom test." Our awesome bond won't disintegrate if he naps in his crib or swing.
Being able to take care of him while also finding time to garden and shoot (and get some of this leftover baby weight off) is making my world wider than I thought it could be. =)
So, it might be a tiny update, but I really love these new prints. I call the series Silver and the Sea. They are on metallic paper, which adds a lovely depth and warmth. Hopefully more will speak to me and I'll add to the set. If not, if something new inspires me, I'm all for that too. It's interesting when you just don't have the time to plot and plan. It's interesting to see what pops up.

...with Moa
Yay! We've finished our 2nd diptych of the summer! Moa and I felt like doing another project, if you remember from this post. It so happened that we both were taking vacations this past weekend and this is what we came back with. I'm the flag, she's the shoes. It's funny, I was expecting both of us to have water shots, but we both have stripes. I didn't see that coming! That is really the exciting thing about doing a photo project. You never know the relationship our photos will have with each other. While I'm on the topic, this and this have always been HUGE inspirations when it comes to diptychs, and really just stellar photography in general.

Hello Monday! (And p.s. to a reader who emailed me.)
Hope you had a great weekend! Here we are at another Monday and I'm giving in to the fact that I just can't blog about anything cool, spend the day shooting uninterrupted, or find time to update the details in my shop that I've wanted to get to in what feels like forever. I give in. It's not going to happen for awhile because I have a little buddy in my life that takes up all that time. And even though some days feel difficult and never-ending, I miss him a ridiculous amount when he's only sleeping. Hopefully the whole wide world doesn't pass me by. But if it did, it will have been worth it.How about you update me on whatever it is I'm missing? =)
p.s. Oh! Awhile ago a kind reader sent me an email asking about my camera, and shared some sweet words. I'm so sorry that I didn't get back to you and your email disappeared. Most of my photos are shot with a Nikon D80. I hope you've been shooting and having a blast!
