Interior Inspiration

Our entry is two tones of dark brown. I like it, but I'm never really out there. The space is big enough for a closet, a bunch of shoes, the big stack of junkmail that sits in a basket on the floor, and our tennis rackets. So, after being bowled-over-inspired by this photo, I'm thinking it's the color for our yet to be redone basement! Yay! If you remember from here, I wanted a salmon pink room, but I'm really not making any headway with the hubs on that. I have sold him on deep dark brown however. Brown on the walls AND on the ceiling. Score one for me! =)

I'm really liking it with the blue in this photo, but I think I can sneak in my salmon pink if I want. It's going to make such a nice backdrop for any color to shine. Maybe he did know what he was thinking in a round about way. He was just avoiding pink for the sake of a man avoiding pink (and I'm normally with him. I don't like pink either, but I'd become obsessed with a certain tone of it and style of decorating with it) but I can see the value in going with a color that is more flexible. That's funny, I'm never usually such a sensible person in that way! Haha

One thing that hasn't change... I want a bookcase behind the couch. And a mirror on the bookcase. See. I'm still demanding. I haven't gone completely sensible. "Sensible." Pfft. So overrated. ; )

P.S.

Get free U.S. shipping on the Holiday Card Sets in my shop this weekend. Five pretty folded cards with white envelopes, tied up with a fabric ribbon, are the perfect little extra gift to have around during the holidays. Especially for teachers or someone in your office. ; )
Find them here and here.

I'm Thankful for Pink Twigs

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone here. Last year I wrote about how I'm not a fan of turkey. I think it's bland and dry and takes too long to cook. Well, I didn't come up with a solution to the cooking length this year, but we did make a pretty darn yummy turkey finally! Schmearing it with a stick of butter (on the skin, but more importantly under the skin-- and yeah, it doesn't escape me that that sounds rather gross) and rubbing a few tablespoons of smoked paprika, salt, and pepper all over these same places sure makes for a good bird. What a simple solution!

I'd tell you about the rest of the meal, but I'm sort of in a food/drink haze, and I'm sure you are either over it by now, or did not celebrate Thanksgiving in the first place, and will be a-okay if I just tell you about my walk today instead. Right? Thanks! =)

I took a walk along the river today. The Mississippi River is just a mile or so from our house. I was a little surprised at how few people were out today. It was nice though to have the quiet. I brought my camera because taking photos always relaxes my mind and the quiet worked well with it. I can't believe it is almost December because the walk felt much more like Fall. I'm DEFINITELY thankful for that. I'm good with holding off the "s" word for as long as we can.

A weird thing happened though. A woman out getting some exercise, (She had been getting frustrated back at her house because her daughter was trying to teach her how to knit socks and she needed to clear her mind so she could refocus and try again when she returned.) saw me photographing some tiny dead flower heads and asked if I was a nature photographer. Instead of explaining to her about my shop, and what I do, I told her I was just shooting them for fun. Is that weird that I didn't own up to my business? I suppose it was true that I was just there to have fun, but isn't it weird that I did that? Have you ever done something like that? If so, why do you think we'd keep such a thing to ourselves? I'm not sure myself... and my food haze is making it hard to figure out all the possibilities right now. But I'm going to make a point of talking about my shop next time, just to even things out. ; )

Well, I hope you've had a wonderful week. If you celebrated Thanksgiving, or just had a nice week minus the overwhelming amounts of food, I want you to know that I'm thankful for you. I really am.

Spending the Holidays with PNS

Where will you be for the holidays? I will be at paper n stitch because the spaces there make me giddy. Seriously. If you haven't heard of PNS yet, then you can catch up on the site and the founder Brittni's history and happenings here. But if you're already familiar with all the goodness that is PNS, then let's get comfy and go check out the new exhibit, including my space (Yay!), and let the drooling begin. I'm getting my wallet ready too. Holiday gift shopping is so much better here in my pajamas and slippers... malls are so last year. ; )

P.S. PNS readers can enjoy a special deal on my prints through December 13th... Buy one, Get one 1/2 off! The details are at the top of my exhibit space. Enjoy!

What gives me the happies...

The intricacies of these cuts could have me mezmerized for hours, and I really just love the hearts and stars, it's like a grown up version of a notebook doodle.

Why, oh why am I not a "neutral" girl in real life? I want to devour this room! The legs on that cabinet, the molding (and the darker ceiling, hello yum), and those floor pillows with their fuzzy accessories. I want to repaint my house asap (and restain the floors!).

These boots arrived and I'm hoping we can be good friends. ; ) I'm going to test run them at work... *fingers-crossed*

Every single image from this engagement shoot is perfection. I'm not sure what I wish more; that I was the photographer or the gorgeous girl with the adorable bangs. xoxo

Click the images for their sources, you really really must!

{Around Here}

Hi there!
When I drag myself out of my house after an early morning of work, this is what I find.

Maybe I should get out more.
(And then I wouldn't have to see my messy office anymore either. Ohhhh... the plan just gets better and better.)

I hope you're finding great little surprises around every corner this week too!

It's my booth, baby!

The Edina Family Center's gift boutique was a success last night! Here is my booth. My sweet booth. My very FIRST booth. =) What do ya think?

The cream colored top to my tablecloth has a row of scallops across the bottom, it's hard to tell from this angle I think. My mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law sewed it from my design. I love it. It's cream, but there is a tiny pattern to it that reminds me of my hallway's vintage wallpaper.

The minty table on the side was one that I bought at an auction, for I think $5. It's got a pretty thick coat of paint because I didn't get the mintiness right the first time. My favorite thing about it is that is gets twice as long when the drop downs on each side are put out.

The hubs made my "clothesline" and the 4 section cubby and my area wouldn't have been the same without them. Thanks nerd!

And the wooden file boxes came from Ikea, but I haven't been able to find them on their website, so I think they might be discontinued. Boo.

All in all, I think was a great success. I'd never done an actual booth at a craft fair before, but I set a goal in my mind, and thankfully I hit it on target. I haven't had a chance to think over what I would do differently, I'm rather sleep deprived at the moment, but I just wanted to quick share with you!

I hope you've woken up to a great Friday! And now that things have settled down a bit, I hope to see you more. Have a great weekend!

{Special thank you to Dorie, Dawne, Terrin, Ellery, Mom, Grandma, Dee, and Ben. Your support made it feel like it was my birthday! And thanks so much to Teri, who invited me to be apart of such a fun event!}
